Why we are building a project tool specifically for IT.
Most project management software is general-purpose by design. It handles a task list, an assignee and a due date, and it does that well for a marketing campaign or a product backlog.
IT work has a different shape. A cutover depends on a maintenance window that has to be approved. A rollout waits on hardware with a twelve-week lead time. The engineers delivering the project are also the ones being paged at 2am. And when it is all over, somebody will ask who approved the change and what the rollback plan was.
Teams end up bridging that gap with spreadsheets, a ticketing system, a change tool and a chat thread — and the true state of a project lives in the head of whoever is running it.
yourKEYtoIT is a single platform for the full life of an IT project: the request, the approval, the plan, the change, the delivery and the record left behind. The aim is not to add process for its own sake, but to make the process that already exists visible and cheap to follow.
Two principles guide it. First, the platform should reflect how the work is really done, not how a methodology says it should be. Second, your data belongs to you — export is a feature on every plan, not a lever.
